Negotiations between the walls of the pensions conclave ended without an agreement after several weeks of unsuccessful exchanges.
No white smoke at the end of the final negotiation meeting on Monday. The conclave on pensions resulted in a “failure”announced Yvan Ricordeau, CFDT negotiator on Monday evening at the end of the last meeting after four months of consultation between social partners.
“The employers have closed the door to unions, especially on the proposal that the employees most exposed to arduousness do not have the same effort to be made as others”said the CFDT negotiator. “The discussion stops”he developed by announcing a “Negotiation failure”. “The problem we have is that the MEDEF (main employers’ organization) does not look at reality in front of the life of workers who are exposed to arduousness”deplored Yvan Ricordeau. This «conclave» brought together two employers’ organizations, MEDEF and CPME, and three unions, CFDT, CFE-CGC and CFTC.
6.6 billion euros in 2030
The idea of this conclave, wanted by Prime Minister François Bayrou, was mainly to try to make the reform of the bounded pension of 2023 less unpopular, which gradually brought retirement from 62 to 64 to 64. While aiming for financial balance, while a system deficit promises to be up to 6.6 billion euros in 2030.
The end of the conclave is thus a moment of truth for François Bayrou, who launched this new format of discussion after a compromise established with the socialists to avoid government censorship. And the Prime Minister undertook to present the conclusions before the Parliament. “From the moment this conclave does not lead to the repeal of the pension reform, we will deposit a motion of censorship”promised Manuel Bompard, coordinator of rebellious France. But LFI would need the support of other groups on the left. And the Socialist Party is divided on the issue.
