“The shock that we felt was strong but for the moment no damage has been reported,” wrote Luigi Manzoni, mayor of Pozzuoli, a town on the front line because located in the immediate vicanity of the volcanic area of the Phlegrean fields, on Facebook.
The Phlegrean fields, of which an eruption 40,000 years ago had affected the climate of the planet, worry residents and scientists due to a resurgence of its activity due to the gases emitted by the magma and which put pressure on the surface by cracking the soil.
The area has been affected by several earthquakes in recent years, the last of which dates back to May 13 with a magnitude of 4.4, without injured or damage.
