In Europe, in the first exchanges, the Paris Stock Exchange lost 1.60 %, Frankfurt gave up 1.58 %, London 0.74 %and Milan 1.18 %. The Swiss scholarship was closed due to a public holiday.

The STOXX Europe 600 pan -European index, which brings together the 600 largest stock market capitalizations on the old continent, fell 1.07 %

In Asia, on the Seoul Stock Exchange, the Kospitic index accused a net with 3.88 %. On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Nikkei star index ended 0.66%.

In continental China, Shenzhen sold 0.17 % and Shanghai 0.37 %. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index lost 0.93 % in the last exchanges.

Canada sees the customs duties applied to its products finally go from 25 % to 35 %, unless they are covered by the free trade agreement between the three countries of North America.

“In total, 40 countries are receiving a uniform rate of 15 %, while a dozen others receive” tailor -made “sanctions, according to their trade balance or their diplomatic agility,” said Stephen Innes, analyst at SPI AM.

“The American customs rate increased to around 15 %, against a little more than 2 % at the start of the year,” said Jim Reid, an economist at Deutsche Bank. “This is its highest level since the 1930s,” he said.

The decree published Thursday by the White House provides that the implementation of new taxes starts seven days after the publication of the text, which leads to August 7, “and therefore a possibility for certain countries to conclude an agreement by then”, said the economist.

Pharmaceuticals in the red

Donald Trump sent emails to 17 pharmaceutical companies on Thursday to ask them to lower the prices of medicines sold in the United States under penalty of reprisals.

He demands that they “align their American prices with those practiced in other countries, with a period of 60 days to comply,” noted Mr. Reid.

In Paris, the French group Sanofi lost 0.47 %, the Franco-Austrian Valneva lost 1.04 %and the Biotech Abivax 4.69 %. On the London Stock Exchange, Astrazeneca fell 3.87 % and GSK of 1.87 %.

No exemptions for spirits

The European Commission said on Thursday that it was pursuing negotiations with the United States to try to obtain customs duties on wines and spirits, but expects to be affected by American taxes of 15 % at this stage.

The Federation of French Wine and Spirits (FEVS) exporters called France and the EU to “the continuation of negotiations”.

In Paris, around 7:45 a.m. GMT, the giant Pernod Ricard remained in balance (+0.04 %), Rémy Cointreau ceded 0.29 %and LVMH, which owned Moët & Chandon and Cognac Hennessy, lost 0.98 %.

In London, Diageo released 0.40 %.
