The union refuses arbitration, the strike is approaching

This recent news further concretizes the strike movement at Air Canada which could start from 11:58 p.m. Central time this Friday, August 15.

Already flights had started to be canceled on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, the SCFP had already rejected an Air Canada offer to resort to the enforceable arbitration of a third party, and did not want the government to interfere in the negotiation process. “If the government crosses this line, we will react loud and clear,” said the union on Wednesday.

Again, this Friday, the union therefore asks Air Canada to resume negotiations.

“The union maintains that I Air Canada should return to the negotiation table and resumes in good faith. Consequently, the request for ministerial intervention presented by Air Canada under article 107 must be firmly rejected, “said a declaration from the union.

As a reminder, Air Canada and the Canadian Public Service Syndicate (SCFP), which represents more than 10,000 firm on -board agents, have been negotiating for eight months in order to conclude a new collective agreement.

The country’s airports are starting to prepare for the possibility of a strike. Winnipeg Richardson International Airport invite passengers who must take an air Canada flight “to check the condition of their flight before going to YWG, as there could be changes or cancellations. »»

If you should travel soon, Air Canada has shared information on possible options.
