Toolbox on diseases transmitted by ticks

Climate change promotes the presence of ticks in Quebec and their progress towards the north. Knowing that these ticks can transmit several diseases, such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis or Babesiosis, it is important to set up interventions to prevent tick bites and protect the health of the population. In addition to the regional public health departments, municipal circles can play an important role in this sense by their proximity to their citizens and their skills and responsibilities. A toolbox on the prevention of diseases transmitted by ticks, addressing municipal environments, has been developed as part of the plan for a green economy. This box makes it possible to identify the interventions that municipal environments can set up. It can also facilitate the work of regional public health departments to support municipalities and adapt the tools to the regional scale.

Speakers

Geneviève Germain is a scientific advisor in the Zoonoses team from the Biological Risks Department of the Inspq. It has been collaborating with multiple projects for almost 13 years, mainly in the knowledge transfer of knowledge and infectious diseases, and has a dozen years of experience in the health network. She has a baccalaureate in communications and a master’s degree in public health at the University of Montreal.
