President Donald Trump promulgated his budgetary law with great fanfare on Friday at the White House on the occasion of the National Day, during a ceremony marked by an air parade of stealth bombs B-2, the plane used during the raids in Iran.
(Keystone-ATS) “We are entering the golden age of America,” said Donald Trump during a speech of about twenty minutes at the White House before signing his “big and beautiful law”, as he baptized, surrounded by Republican elected officials whose support was crucial to tear the vote from the text.
He had pressure to achieve this before July 4, 249th anniversary of the independence of the United States vis-Ã -vis the British crown.
The law was definitively voted on Thursday, just in time, a success that the 79 -year -old republican president described as “greater victory” since the start of his mandate on January 20.
He nevertheless eaten with a satisfaction manifesting his series of political success, in recent weeks, between the ceasefire between Iran and Israel after American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, Agreement on NATO spending, and decision of the Supreme Court favorable to the executive in the face of the judiciary.
Two B-2, the type of plane that bombed the Iranian nuclear installations on June 22, and fighter planes flew over the White House for the occasion, while certain pilots who participated in the operation attended the ceremony, which ended in the evening with the traditional fireworks on the “National Mall” under the eyes of the President and the First Lady, Melania.
The adoption of this law also confirms Donald Trump’s grip on the Republican Party and, for the time being, on American policy in general, despite doubts in his camp and the noisy opposition of his former ally, the Multimillionaire Elon Musk.
After the Senate, which had approved it narrowly on Tuesday, the House of Representatives adopted this text definitively by 218 votes against 214, a very tight vote, preceded by multiple pressures and negotiations.
“Make this country better”
The sprawling budgetary law honors many of Mr. Trump’s campaign promises: increased military spending, financing a massive migrant expulsion campaign and commitment of $ 4,500 billion to extend the tax credits granted during its first mandate.
To compensate for the worsening of public debt, the new law will reduce the Federal Food Aid Program and impose important cups in the Medicaid, health insurance regime for modest income, the most important since its launch in the 1960s.
According to some estimates, up to 17 million people may lose their health insurance coverage and dozens of rural hospitals could close.
“There are special funds to guarantee medical coverage in rural areas,” said the president’s main economic adviser on Fox News, Kevin Hassett, saying that budgetary law would combat “waste, fraud and abuse” within the Medicaid regime.
Donald Trump also castigated his opponents who say, according to him, “Oh, it’s dangerous, everyone will die”. “It’s exactly the opposite,” he said.
A government employee participating in one of the parades of the national holiday, Rachel Prager, 45, told AFP that the situation in the United States did not make her “not particularly optimistic” but said that they would come out of this bad pass.
“Countries are experiencing ups and downs and it is a particularly deep division period but I think that it corresponds to what is happening on a global scale, with the far-right movements in South America in Europe,” she relativized.
For Michael Keaton, 50, who works in the communication sector, “you can be a patriot and be left, right or center”.
“I think we must all try to do what we can make this country better,” he added, saying “that we can love his country while recognizing his faults”.
Democrats hope that dissatisfaction caused by the benefits of budget law will help them conquer the majority in the House of Representatives in the mid-term elections in 2026.
It will be for them to show that this is a huge redistribution of wealth of the poorest Americans towards the richest.
