Two cases of chikungunya were diagnosed this weekend in the commune of Grosseto-Pugna. It is, according to the Regional Health Agency (ARS) in Corsica, the first confirmed indigenous cases on the island territory.
The reported cases have occurred within “of the same family without a history of travel in tropical zone”, specify in a press release the health authorities while stressing that the evolution of the state of health of the persons concerned “Is not deemed worrying”.
Information of residents and an investigation at the door at the door
As of Saturday, June 21, in order to avoid any propagation of the virus at the local level, anti-label control actions coordinated by the ARS in connection with public health France and the anti-label control service of the Corsican community were carried out on sites deemed frequented by sick people within 15 days preceding the appearance of symptoms and therefore judged at risk.
In detail, the health authorities have announced the implementation of a clinical, biological and epidemiological survey with identification of exhibition and passing places as well as an entomological survey in order to identify the presence of mosquitoes.
A targeted demoustication action intended to destroy larval lodges and adult mosquitoes at the places of residence and passage of sick people was also carried out.
The ARS of Corsica indicated that it had made information from the residents concerned as well as a door investigation in the vicinity, “In order to document the feedback from recent tropical zone or chikungunya travel, to identify possible other sick people and inform them of the driving to be kept.”
Symptoms that can be serious in the elderly and fragile
In parallel, health professionals have been the subject of additional information concerning the diagnosis of the disease and the management of people likely to present the symptoms of chikungunya.
The ARS of Corsica would like to recall that these “can have significant consequences in the most fragile people, especially seniors”.
And according to health authorities, prevention is a crucial weapon against the spread of the virus.
It is advisable to use a skin repellant and wear loose clothes
Thus, it is advisable to protect yourself from mosquito bites thanks to a skin repellent, covering and large clothes, and using air conditioners or fans and mosquito nets.
Personal protection also involves the abolition of stagnant waters in the cups, buckets and in the slightest corner.
In case of strong fevers, joint and muscle pain, fatigue, rash, it is recommended to consult your doctor without delay.
To date, several other Aboriginal chikungunya episodes have also been identified in the south of France, notably in Occitania, Var and Hérault.
We are talking about indigenous cases when the person has contracted the disease at the national level. She did not trace in the contaminated zone within 15 days preceding the appearance of symptoms.
