French ambitions

In France, the SNCF, the country’s leading electricity consumer, also nourishes solar ambitions. Although Swiss Ideas are not yet adopted, the SNCF has set up a pole dedicated to renewable energies. It has set itself the goal of reaching 1000 MWC of photovoltaic capacities by 2030. This ambitious plan aims to cover 15 to 20 % of its current consumption. Currently, 94 sites are being studied, representing 600 potential hectares for solar installations. The ultimate objective of the SNCF is to achieve energy self -sufficiency in its infrastructure, while reducing its dependence to nuclear power plants which currently provide the majority of its 9 annual TWh.
