Windows 11 build 27898 and smart icons, what’s new?

  • Dynamic taskbar icons: they automatically adjust to display more apps in case of size.
  • Quick recovery: Windows detects and corrects some plantages on its own via the Internet.
  • Personalized voice access: Add your own words for a more precise dictation.
  • Narrator with screen curtain: reinforced confidentiality for visually impaired users
  • Sharing and capture of screen: Visual overview of shared links + shortcut to extract the text from the captures.
  • More readable explorer, more intuitive parameters, and vocal support in Japanese and Chinese.

Microsoft continues Windows 11 improvements with the deployment of the build 27898. The OS is available for PCS scored on the Canal Canary of the Insider program. This version introduces many new features. They concern many things including the interface, the resilience of the system and accessibility. Here is everything you have to remember

Taskbar icons that adapt

Does your taskbar overflow with open or pinned applications? The intelligent scaling of icons allows Windows 11 to automatically reduce their size when the space becomes limited. This advance makes it possible not to change your habits with more visible apps and fewer clicks.

You can customize this feature according to your preferences: activate it only when the bar is full, deactivate it completely or use it permanently. A simple right click on the taskbar allows you to access the settings in ” Directors’ behaviors ».

Quick recovery: Windows is repaired (almost) on its own

The new rapid recovery function promises to drastically reduce stoppages in the event of a start -up problem.

If Windows detects a start -up concern, it automatically restarts in the recovery environment (Winre) and connects to the Internet. Microsoft can then deploy fixes via the Windows Update service.

Companies can personalize this behavior with intune. The functionality is activated by default for individuals.

Improvement of vocal access: add your words

Voice access gains flexibility with the possibility of adding personalized words to the integrated dictionary. Whether for proper names, technical words or poorly recognized terms, this option improves the precision of the vocal dictation.

It is available in all careful languages: English, French, Spanish, German and Chinese.

The narrator becomes more discreet thanks to the screen curtain

Microsoft introduces a “screen curtain” function for the narrator users. When activated, the display becomes completely black, ensuring that only the user hears the content on the screen, without anyone around being able to read it. Ideal for public environments or situations requiring strengthened confidentiality.

Notable changes and improvements

To all this is added many other little things. For example, authorization dialog boxes (micro, location, camera, etc.) adopt a more readable new design, with darkening of the screen to better attract attention.

Regarding energy savings, an adaptive mode appears on portable devices. It automatically activates or deactivates the energy savings according to the condition of the battery and the system load, without touching the brightness.

The Share function benefits from a visual overview when sharing web content or links.

Voice access supports Chinese and Japanese while the shortcut (Win + Maj + T) in the capture tool allows you to directly access the text extractor.

Finally, it is possible to select the browser as the default application for PDF files, in addition to the web. It will be automatically pinned in the taskbar and the start menu, unless you decide otherwise.

Being on the Canary Canal, this new build is not recommended for production PCs. Microsoft lists several known problems including one concern with the file explorer that may not keep view changes. This also has an impact on office icons, which can move unexpectedly or return to the default size.
