With its offers on ID.3 and ID.4, Volkswagen strikes hard on Renault and Peugeot

By offering its ID.3 and ID.4 at less than € 170 per month, Volkswagen seems to want to hurt French competitors Peugeot and Renault as part of social leasing. The German brand is riding the rise in sales of these two models in Europe and could well succeed this year in France.

The Germans had already been particularly aggressive in terms of pricing on the ID ranges last year to give a second breath to sales. In particular in Germany, where these discounts had borne fruit: the registrations of ID.3 but also and above all ID.4 have jumped since. A paid strategy that especially showed that Volkswagen had managed to erase the bad beginnings of ID.3, spoiled by many development problems on the software part. Today, Volkswagen strikes hard by revealing its “social leasing” offers on the ID.3 and ID.4 which could hurt Stellantis and Renault.

An ID.3 barely more expensive than an entry -level R5

Is Renault too expensive, or is Volkswagen particularly aggressive? Probably a bit of both. But let us recall the price differences all the same: € 24,900 for an R5 Five 95 hp (without any quick recharge), and € 36,490 for the ID.3 Life Max. However, rents are very close: € 120/month for the Renault 5 and 139 €/month for the German, superior on almost all points. A very low gap that places the ID.3 in a position of strength.

Obviously, such an offer can only raise the question: how can Volkswagen be so aggressive? The German brand seems confident in the residual value of its electric models in 2025. And it should be noted that the version at € 139/month is far from being stripped since the Life Max finish has, among other reversing camera, 18 ” alloy rims, access and start -up without keys, adaptive and predictive cruise control, navigation system with route planner, Android Apple Carplay. And € 139/month, this is exactly the amount requested for the rental of a Renault 5 Evolution 120 hp with small battery.

An unbeatable ID.4?

Those who would be tempted by electric mobility and who will be eligible for social leasing in 2025 could therefore be seduced by the ID.4. The German family is displayed at € 169/month in version also 52 kWh, 170 hp and Life Max. The equipment list is the same as the ID.3. At this price, what do we find at Renault or Stellantis?

A 52 kWh and 150 hp Battery 52 -hp Renault 5 Evolution Evolution Evolution, or even a 120 hp Renault 4 Evolution with small battery. The Peugeot E-2008 is billed from 150 €/month with its 54 kWh battery. Still at Renault, it will take 195 €/month for an e-tech megane with the small battery and the 130 hp engine. In other words, the ID.4 is ideally placed and could even go so far as to convince people who would not be interested in electric to try the adventure for 3 years without breaking the bank.

Admittedly, the prices displayed speak for themselves but be careful: theAutonomies are in favor of French women! The R5 can rise to more than 400 km with the 52 kWh battery, as is the E-208 or E-2008 at Peugeot with the 54 kWh battery. At Volkswagen, ID.4 is approved at only 360 km in the version offered for social leasing. The ID.3 is announced at 387 km.
