Electricity flight of $ 300,000 in Lac-Saint-Jean: two companies guilty

Two companies at number pleaded guilty to civil accusations of electricity theft on Thursday morning, before the superior court at the Roberval courthouse. The two entities have undertaken to reimburse the sum of $ 250,000 in Hydro-Québec.

The first company concerned is an investment company belonging to Mathieu Goulet. The second is a concrete company that he has with his brother, Guillaume Goulet.

The crown prosecutor, Mélanie Paré, explains that, if Hydro-Québec judges the reimbursement satisfactory, the criminal charges targeting the two brothers and their companies could be abandoned.

This outcome would be well received by the lawyer who represents the two brothers, Me Jean-Marc Fradette.

In 2021, a Hydro-Québec survey made it possible to dismantle a major electricity flight network in Lac-Saint-Jean.

Offenses were notably detected in fifteen residences located in Roberval, Chambord, Saint-Bruno, Saint-Félicien, Hébertville, Saint-Prime as well as Mashteuiatsh.

A few months later, civil and criminal accusations had been filed against three people and four entities, including the Vivadent dental clinic in Saint-Bruno.

Another file in court

Guillaume Goulet is also the owner of the old residence for seniors Le Brunois de Saint-Bruno. He had acquired the building in 2024, shortly after its closure because of its obsolescence and the critical state of its structure.

The procedures started by Saint-Bruno could go as far as demolition.

He then decided to illegally rent apartments in the building.

Update, the municipality of Saint-Bruno obtained two injunctions from the Superior Court in order to force Guillaume Goulet to evacuate the residents and carry out the repair work necessary to operate the building.

An agreement ultimately intervened between the municipality and the dental surgeon.
