Mathieu Fleury hired by the SPCA of Outaouais

The Franco-Ontarian and former elected representative of the Rideau-Vanier district (2010 to 2022) was hired by the Outaouais SPCA as interim managing director. He has been in office since mid-May, but the news had passed under the radar.

“His experience and commitment to the community strengthen our mission and support our team during this transition period. This collaboration is part of our desire to continue to advance together, in order to offer ever more human and quality services in terms of animal welfare in Outaouais, says Nathalie Joly, president of the board of directors of the organization dedicated to the defense of animals.

Maxime Daigle, who held this role since 2021 has left his duties, specifies the organization, who thanks him for his contribution.

Despite a request for this purpose, the SPCA indicated to the Right that its interim managing director did not give interviews to the media.

Political involvement

Known for its active involvement in the Ontario Francophonie, Mr. Fleury A – In addition to his three terms at the Ottawa municipal council table – was also chairman of the board of directors of the Ottawa community housing company for a few years. At the time, he was expected to embark on the town hall race, but had dismissed this idea.

Since he drew a line on politics, he has, among other things, directed the JW Macintosh Community support services, a Williamsburg organization, south of Ottawa, in addition to doing analysis in certain media.

Defender of the French, he was, among other things, was a knight of the Order of the Pleiade and won the Bernard-Grandmaître Prize, awarded by the Association of Francophone Communities of Ottawa (ACFO).

He had then in 2023 was appointed director general in Cornwall for a five -year term, but the contract binding him to the municipality was terminated just over a year later.

Founded in 1984, the Outaouais SPCA has around sixty employees. Partner of several municipalities in the territory in the region, it notably signed last year an agreement of seven years valid until 2030 with the city of Gatineau.

The organization, which does not benefit from any subsidy, managed in 2024 a budget amounting to $ 3,986,000. The main income envelopes are by far municipal contracts (41 %) and animal licenses (30 %).

Last year, just over 3,800 animal admissions were counted at the refuge.
