The comicianist Michel Rabagliati and the author and illustrator Élise Gravel are among the most recent cohort of 83 personalities appointed to the order of Canada, as announced on Monday by the general governor Mary Simon. Former UFC champion Georges Saint-Pierre and illustrator Myriam Dubuc are also among the honored.
The creator of the character of Paul and the prolific ideal ofA bike potato (2016) will now be able to add letters CM (member of the Order of Canada), one of the country’s highest civil distinctions. This is granted to people who have made an exceptional contribution to Canadian society.

Marianne Dubuc, Miriam Toews, Ronald Bourgeois and GSP
Among the other artists appointed to the order of Canada, there is the author and illustrator of Quebec Marianne Dubuc, whose children’s books were published internationally and translated in more than 30 languages. In particular, she won several literary awards, including two prizes from the Quebec booksellers and two prizes from the Governor General.
The writer Miriam Toews and the harmonicist Mike Stevens, both of Ontario, were named officers of the Order of Canada (OC), just like the Canadian actress and producer Tonya Williams.

Also honored the neo-Scottish guitarist Ronald Bourgeois, the poet of the Saskatchewan Sky Dancer Louise Bernice Halfe, the Montreal pianist Michael McMahon, the producer of Disc of Newfoundland and Labrador Greg Wells, as well as the Ontarian Bluesman Gilbert Donald.
Apart from the cultural industry, we also note the appointment as a member of the Order of Canada of George Saint-Pierre, widely considered as one of the greatest combatants of mixed martial arts in history, three times champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
