It was a week ago, during the night from Thursday to Friday, the tranquility of the residents of avenue de Philippeville in Marcinelle (Charleroi) was shaken by a terrible noise. An explosion had just occurred, up to a few shops …
A war scene
On the spot, in the early morning, the place was unrecognizable. The damage was impressive and alone testified to the intensity of the explosion: damaged cars, facades destroyed and blown by the explosion, etc. On the spot, it was easily felt like it had to have experienced a real war scene.
The apartments above shops have also been impacted. Eight inhabitants had to find refuge elsewhere while the stability of the infrastructure was compromised. For several hours, the road portion concerned by the facts had remained closed to traffic, in order to evacuate the debris and clean the place. Miraculously, no death was to be deplored.
Confirmed criminal thesis
Last Friday, during the evening, the Charleroi prosecutor’s office managed to conclude that the explosion had occurred from the Greek restaurant, the first commercial unit next to the Fricapapa brand. The accidental or criminal thesis could not yet be confirmed, as the damage was important and that the expert had to go there several times, “to deepen his findings”.
A week later, the Charleroi prosecutor’s office tells us that “According to the first observations, the criminal thesis is confirmed“. No question of a gas leak then, as it could have been mentioned among the many hypotheses issued. Duties must still be accomplished by the expert in Marcinelle, in order to submit Carolo a definitive report on the course of the facts.
