The price of electricity on the wholesale market has reached its highest level this year in Belgium on Tuesday evening, reports from Tijd to its website. It is a combination of high demand for air conditioning due to hot weather, in particular, and a lower offer, partly due to the temporary maintenance of Doel 4.
The “Day Ahead” price on the wholesale market (EPEX) amounts to 517.57 euros per megawatt hour on Tuesday between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and 500 euros between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. This is the highest level this year and a remarkably high level for summer months.
This level was only reached during the 2022 energy crisis, written by Tijd. A price above 500 euros per megawatt hour is very exceptional anyway.
