“These figures keep confirming that the trafficking in human beings is a reality in Switzerland” writes Tuesday the Treaty platform, which brings together the five organizations – FIZ, Astrée, CSP Geneva, Antenna and Avit -, specialized in the council and assistance to victims, in a press release.
On the 201 victims, 114 were sexually exploited while 95 underwent work linked to work, incentive to commit crimes and begging.
In 2024, the people who suffered from the trafficking came from 54 different countries, the platform said. The new victims came mainly from Nigeria, Colombia and Hungary.
In all, the members of the Plafomre Treaty came to the aid of 483 people in 2023, a figure which includes the newly and already identified victims.
Best federal coordination
The platform deals underlines that these figures “reflect only part of the reality of the phenomenon in Switzerland”. The identification depends strongly on the presence of specialized services, the degree of awareness of the theme and the controlled sectors.
In this context, the platform welcomes the growing involvement of certain cantons and is delighted to welcome as a new member the newly created specialized consultation service in Valais. However, she notes that consistency between these cantonal actions and federal policies must be improved.
Without this close coordination in particular, the platform deals fears that the fight against trafficking in human beings will lose in long -term efficiency. It cites in particular the example of certain victims who are denied a residence permit by the federal authorities, while the cantonal authorities are favorable or that they have financially supported the integration process of these people for several years.
Criticized asylum pact
On the 201 new victims of identified drafts, 10.4% were in an asylum procedure written the platform. The others were undocumented and were the right of foreigners.
Based on several experiences, the various organizations explain that the precariousness of migratory journeys exposes those concerned at significant risks of exploitation.
In this context, the platform strongly deals with the adaptations brought by Switzerland to the European Pact on asylum and recommends that Switzerland make use of the sovereignty clause to process asylum requests, especially for people in vulnerability.
